| the Through-the-Viewfinder (TtV) technique relies on the optical peculiarities of vintage waist-level viewfinder cameras. these
inexpensive cameras made in the 40’s, 50’ and 60’s are usually placed in a periscope-type box. a digital camera is pointed down the scope
and focused on the viewfinder. this optical coupling produces a narrow depth of field, vignetting, and lack of true focus resulting in a unique
image reminiscent of tilt-shift lenses. taking this device into the neighboring woods was yet another way for me to capture the unique characters
that inhabit this wonderous place. a severe windstorm recently played havoc with some of my tall friends, slamming them to the ground
and changing, for a time, the stately and strong atmosphere. |

“In the woods, too, a man castes off his years, as the snake his slough, and, at what period soever of life, is always a child.
In the woods is perpetual youth. Within these plantations of God a decorum and sanctity reign, a perennial festival is dressed,
and the guest sees not how he should tire of them in a thousand years.
In the woods we return to reason and faith. ” --- Emerson
